Re: I have to be dumb....

I got 14 bills the other day from Spectrum Labratories, all for the same type of test, but on different dates. Some were dating back to 2007. I called them to see why I got all these bills(since my insurance) was supposed to have paid them. They said they don't know, but they did file. So I got on the phone to talk to someone at the insurance company about it and they told me, after much frustration, the reason they were denied was because it was billed through Triad Laboratories and not Spectrum Labs. They are THE ONE AND THE SAME COMPANY!! They told me to tell Spectrum to re-submit and they would review them. What a crock.

I told that story because most all you all know I am a disable veteran. And guess what insurance it was? It was my very own Veteran's administration that did this. Tell me how the "Public Option" is going to help when the veteran's administration refuses to pay a medical bill for a totally 100% disabled veteran?

I might add that these tests were ordered by a Doctor who is employed by the veteran's administration and supposed to be my "gate-keeper" to specialized medical care.

If the veteran's administration does this, then how long will it be before Medicare starts. My understanding is that this happens all the time with the private sector.

It does...they try every way in the world to drain the policy holder's pocket as well as wring every dime out of the insurance company as well. In China, they'd take these people out and shoot 'em...not such a bad idea IMO.
...And if you ain't down with that, I got 2 words for ya....

Also got a bill from Spectrum this past week that my PRIVATE insurance should have paid but did not. Not sure what is going on with them? Until I get a lot more info they aren't getting any money from me.

Almost sounds like Spectrum is trying to run a double payment scam.

I don't get the question, the public option would work nothing like that, it wouldn't effect anything with the VA...unless you opt for the option I'm guessing. That would just take tweaking the VA Admin., nothing to do with the public option. IMO Obama's plan to computerize files like these would go along way with problems like you had with them.

But you miss my point. The VA is public insurance for the veterans. How can they bill you for something that is service-connected? I am like Gotch, I think Spectrum is trying to "double-dip". One thing is for sure though, I ain't gonna pay it. I mean, what are they gonna do, take away my service record? I think not, especially a bronze star recipient.

Re: I have to be dumb....

Of course they are trying to double-dip, it happens a lot, it's the company mainly not the system. I don't know how many bills have came to this house, that is covered by two insurances I am on. We don't pay them, tell them to check it again and it always a "mistake on their part". I think with you're situation, it's definitely that company trying to get more money if they can from anyone that doesn't know better, but the VA definitely needs some major tweaking.

I like these steps so far...

PolitiFact | Assure that the Veterans Administration budget is prepared as 'must-pass' legislation - Obama promise No. 110:

PolitiFact | Expand the Veterans Administration's number of "centers of excellence" in specialty care - Obama promise No. 113:

Those articles are fine, but it takes congress to act upon them. And this congress is too wrapped up in the current financial problems of the day. I called at least a dozen people about this and all gave me the same answer, just wait and they will eventually get paid. In the meantime, these bills go to collection agencies and then you have a whole new set of problems. I would pay them if I owed them, but you know what? Uncle Sam promised me he would take care of my health problems along with the bills and they aren't. I not only blame that on the berocrosy(sp) but also on our current congress' inability or lack of caring for its veterans hoping the problem will just go away.

I know I am not the only veteran on here who has had problems in the past with getting their bills paid in a timely matter either. Hell, it kinda makes me wish I had medicaid, that way I know I will get them paid for, along with all the drugs I want.

BTW, did you all know that a veteran gets charged 8 bucks for a 30 day supply of medicine, whem most all of the medicine I get, I can get at Wal-mart or Food City for 4 bucks? WTF is that about.

The Act has already been signed into law, they're legit. This admin. has promised a lot for vets and has done nothing but follow through, the VA just needs a lot of changes. My grandfather has had a lot of problems with them, takes about a week to get his medicine in - which he's on quite a bit. My mother is about to start working there at the one in JC, can't wait to hear those stories.
